Direct Tv Tivo Recordings?

If you record a show can you transfer it to an Ipod or a CD and what are tthe usb ports for

The usb ports are actually for these little usb devices tivo made for a short time called something like tivo-to-go.  You could plug them in and put shows/movies on them, and then plug it into another tivo to watch them, but they only work tivo to tivo.  You cannot use the usb to take the shows on a regular usb to your computer, and unless it is the tivo dvd combo, not the direct tv one you cannot burn a disc with the shows.  What you can do is plug the tivo output cables into another device, like a tv tuner for your computer, and record stuff you have on your tivo on to you computer that way, by playing it on the tivo, and recording on the computer.
