Direct debits?

has anybody had a direct debit cancelled by the bank or payee without being informed of this even though the bank account was well funded. if so what did you do especiaally if cancelled by payee and did they insist it was cancelled by the bank and they deny any knoledge of cancelling it themselves

Happened to a friend of mine. He has a lawyer suing them.
