so my dad decided to go out and buy a direct tv dvr receiver because he was tired of us using his tivo. I got online and read some reviews and they are all horrible. But i found some that were good. What are your thoughts on it if you know? Also, I was wandering, does anyone know how much direct tv would charge to come out and run a cable line to my room? just had the old receiver laying around, and dtv transition is coming, so i need a box anyways. thanks!!!

  1. "directv's receivers have not caught up with that technology yet" - I don't know what these people are talking about. The directv hd dvr came out over a year ago and does everything the new dish 722 does.  There must be a lot of dish tv and cable proponents giving bad reviews of Direct equipment because their lies are the only way they can compete.

The direct hd dvr is a great dvr and I wouldn't want anything else. I haven't had the standard dvr so I can't say anything about it.

  2. you can easily run a coax line yourself. all you need is a long enough cable (50-100ft depending on how far away your room is from the satellite/switch), a 1/2" drill bit, a drill, and common sense. directv would charge you probably 50 bucks to run it.

directv's dvr are not my favorite, personally. however they are pretty decent. i have dish network's newest dvr receiver, the 722. it has 350 hours available for standard definition recording. it can also record two different shows at the same time, even though i only have one coax ran to it. directv's receivers have not caught up with that technology yet.
