first of all im 14 so i live with my parents. all of my friends have direct tv with tivo and stuff and i really want to get it. we have time warner cable currently. its not awful, i just want those extra features. my dad is not 100% convinced. we had dish or satellite or whatever its called and they screwed him over, so i think hes thinking he might get screwed over again. my dad and mom asked me why i want to get direct tv, and i was like because its better (which was soo the wrong answer) but the only reason i could come up with was because of the tivo. could anyone tell me what else you can do with tivo and direct tv that you cant do with cable?

  1. they're both good but if you have kids then direct tv. because time warner has a HBO and they show p**n

  2. Well, Direct TV has about 3 times as many HD channels as cable and they are committed to keeping it that way.  And if your dad likes sports they have way more football available and now NASCAR and basketball as well as international sports.  Plus, you can get more movie packages than with cable.

  3. I'm not sure about the answer to your last sentence, but when I had Direct TV, It was picture perfect all the time, and I never had a problem with the picture unlike Time Warner, who always seem to be working on the cable, and have your cable temporarily unavailable for hours. They don't even have the courtesy to discount or pro-rate your bill, because of the lost time. And for lack of a better word, their customer service stinks!

The only reason why I got rid of Direct TV is because I moved, and I got a $100 for letting the cable guys getting up on the roof and smashing the satellite. Right now, I'm seriously considering getting Direct TV again, because of the reasons mentioned above. Price wise it cost about the same.

  4. not really much difference for both.  If he gets the dvr package with the time warner you can record shows just like tivo and you have all the extra channels available too.  Just explain that you can record shows that you miss and that usually gets em.  Good luck

  5. you will never be unentertained wit tivo

    i used to have comcast

but then they left and put time warner cable in its place.

comcast was 19.99 for digital cable =200 channels

time warner cable was 105.00 for digital cable for 200 channels

my dad ended up not paying so we lost our service.

    so we got direct tv

which charged us 82.35 for 200 channels

which after 5 months dropped to 80 channels for the same price

    wtf!!!!!

so he ended up not paying

so now i have no television service

    wtf????

all i have is my $2000 computer

which is about to give out.

  6. Direct tv is awesome.  We have had it for 4 years and love it.  Dish network is probably what your dad got screwed over with it happened to us with them.  One other thing among ALL the other wonderful things is every year on your anniversary date they call you and offer you 3 different choices for example right now we are getting HBO and Cinamax free for 6 months because we are in good standings with payments.  We also had the option for a free dvr(like tivo) system but we already had tivo.  Bills are cheaper.  100+ HD channels for $10 more a month.  I love it and would NEVER go back to cable.  Hope that helps some in getting your parents to switch.

  7. they offer the most high def channels. your dad might like that one.
