We live in Eastern Saskatchewn. A car full of American kids pulled up in front of our house today. One of them got out of the car and asked my teenage son where they could find some good skiing. My son pointed to the highway and told him to turn West and keep driving untill he saw the the snow covered hill.

The last I saw them they were heading West on the #1 Highway. Should I have intervened and told them just how far they have to drive to get to the Rocky Mountains? Or should I just savour the moment?

  1. I Love your son!

    Savour the moment!

To thinking - if you were going to a foreign country, would you not do at least a tiny little bit of research? Have you ever been to Eastern Saskatchewan in the summer? Would the thought of skiing even enter your head in that setting in that time of year? And I do not see one shred of evidence that the young man who gave the correct directions was even a tiny bit unpleasant.

  2. Just don't complain when americans say that Canadians are unpleasant.

  3. I'd savour the moment! What else was your son supposed to say anyway? Karen L's answer is right on! Your son gave the correct answer and if the American teenagers can't be bothered to learn a bit about the Canadian climate then that's their problem.

  4. Perfect answer. I loved in when working at a highway gas station outside of Edmonton back in 1969 when a car load of people with skis on the roof would pull in (in July) and ask where to go for skiing. Basically they were given directions for the Alaska Highway.

  5. Your son's directions were perfectly correct. They didn't ask how far, did they? The snow covered mountains aren't visible from your place, so they had to have realized they were going to drive more than a few miles. Savour away.

  6. savour it. ha.
