Question:

Director = employee automatically in UK ltd. ?

In a UK ltd, is the director of the company automatically an employee of that company (like being a regular employee in a company working for a boss) or do you have to (optionally) register to be one ?

Would it make sense to have a nominee director and be employed as an employee in a UK ltd. ? What are the pros and cons ? (I know the concept of "nominee" does not really exist according to some people, however companies offer these services when you set up an ltd. (like nominee secretary, shareholder and director) ...

Thanks in advance !

  1. It seems to me that it would make no difference other than you need to have a director and a company secretary of all private limited companies. If you appoint yourself director then you can pay yourself as an employee anyway so I would remain a director. If you appoint someone else then they have responsibilities as a director which they may not want, such as having to do a self assessment tax return. Whereas if its your own company then its just the way it is!
