Director of Operations at RFU Rob Andrew not leaving with Martin Johnson - Rugby News
Rob Andrew, who is the current director of operations at Rugby Football Union, has denied resigning from his position after the exit of Martin Johnson. Andrew discredited the rumours of his possible exit and told the media on November 16 that he is not pondering
a resignation as it has been done by the manager.
Andrew has been serving the Rugby Football Union since 2006 as head of elite rugby department and has seen many ups and downs in his long career, but has remained committed.
He started off his official career in early 2000 as he retired form professional rugby in 1999. Earlier, he represented his national side in 71 tests and earned 396 points for his team. He was an impressive fly-half of his time, who had a good attacking
and dominating style. He participated in three rugby world cups for England and became one of the pioneers of the squad.
During his playing days, he also made 13 appearances for British and Irish Lions and remained highly successful.
Apart from rugby, Andrew has also played professional cricket for almost two years. He scored a first-class century for Combined Universities.
Later on, he joined Newcastle Falcons as director of rugby and continued working with them until 2006. He was picked for the higher post of RFU due to his imposing administrative skills and is still working at the same position.
While talking about his current status with RFU, Andrew said that, “I am absolutely not considering resigning. As soon as I get out of here, I'll start working on it. Calling for my position shows a complete misunderstanding of my job.”
Meanwhile, expressing his views about the resignation of Martin Johnson, he said that, “Martin was appointed three and a half years ago to run the England team. Martin's unit is a self-contained unit within the elite rugby department running the England
team. That is about a fifth of the responsibilities I have in running the biggest department of the union, from a financial point of view.”
Rob Andrew clarified that he was happy with his role and has no intention of quitting in the near future.
