I am looking for information about what a director does on a daily basis, and how they help staff, children, and parents. I'm interested in being a director but would like to have more information so that I can decide if I want to be a director.

  1. you need to be a teacher first.

  2. As a former director (25 years) I can tell you it's quite an undertaking.  On a daily basis I was responsible for every aspect of that center.  Duties included, but were not limited to:

driving the bus, substituting in classrooms, maintaining ALL licensing regulations at all times, staff development, curicullum development, making sure parents paid their accounts, handeling all parent issues/complaints, marketing, hiring/firing, meetings, grocery shopping, supervising every aspect of what every teacher is doing, supporting each teacher in their classroom, mounds of paperwork, dealing with every out of hand child so that the teacher's were free to continue with their classroom instructions, cleaning up puke so the teacher's could continue, program planning, summer camp planning, holiday camp planning, and other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Would I do it again?  Sure I would.  I retired after 25 years and am now a receptionist in a small office.

Good luck with your decision.  But know that it isn't a 9-5 Mon-Friday type of job.  It's 50-60 hours a week and almost 7 days a week.

  3. Put this on web search (occupational outlook handbook) and it will give you all the information on any job collected by the US Gov.
