Am I correct in understanding that if I upgrade to an HD receiver that it takes the place of an a/v receiver for home theater speakers? I can connect the center channel, sides, sub woofer, etc. into the Directv HD receiver?? Seems too simple.

  1. im pretty sure that a direct tv HD reciever does not have an internal amplifier or speker connections.

  2. No, all the DirectTV HD receiver does is tune the TV signal and provide an audio and video output suitable for connection (via HDMI, optical, digital coax) to an HDTV/Projector and/or an A/V receiver. You need both.
