Question:

Directv Standard Receiver Blew Up!?

I was watching tv, and all of a sudden my screen went black with some white stripes across it. Then the screen went back and I noticed the light on my receiver wasnt on. I unplugged everything and re hooked it up and my receiver wont turn on. I tested the outlet and it works fine. What is my problem and how much is it going to cost to fix it? Ive had service for not even a month!

I Think the standard receiver I have is the R10 or R12?!

  1. It sounds like the receiver did exactly what you stated, blew up.

Make sure you don't open it up to try and fix it yourself, that could end up costing you money out of your own pocket.

Since you are within 30 days you shouldn't be charged any fee. However if they ask you about what it was plugged into, tell them (DirecTV) that you had it plugged into a surge protector and not simply a power strip.

I'm not sure of the exact replacement cost, but I don't believe they will charge you to replace it since it doesn't appear to have been your fault.

    Good luck.
