  1. I think the main arguments boil down to:

DirecTV has more HD channels, but costs more.

DishNetwork has fewer HD channels but costs less.

DishNetwork is aimming for 100HD channels by the end of the year.  I don't know how many DirecTV has, or how many they plan on having.

  2. To continue with the answer above, DirectTV has over 90 HD channels and they're ones you actually watch like USA, ESPN, FUEL, MTV, etc etc.  Here is a lineup.

To the poster below, although the HD channels may change on a regular basis, what remains constant is that DTV has MORE at all times.  Why wouldn't you base your service decision on the channels you get.  And although The NFL Network may be around it still doesn't give you the opportunity to watch EVERY game live and in HD.  I'd base my service decision on actual programming and not a DVR or receiver.

  3. although we could discuss the HD capabilities of both (DirecTV CURRENTLY has more, but that number changes all the time with the addition of more HD channels to both companies), HD is definitely not a good base for decision.

    GET DISH NETWORK!! Here's why...

Dual tuner receivers (run two tvs independently with only one box). This saves you $5 a month by only needing one box for each two tvs ($10 a month if you have 4 tvs because you only need two instead of 4). You will need to have the receivers plugged into a phone line, however.

Another nice thing about dual tuners is that you can watch your dvr recordings on either of the two tvs, whereas with directv you have to watch the recordings on the tv that you recorded the show with. You can record two shows at the same time, too.

Speaking of DVR, Dish Network's DVRs have much larger hard drives, meaning more recording time (350 hours of standard definition recording, or 55 hours of HD recording).  Oh, and Dish's new ViP722 receiver has a usb hard drive expansion option (attach an external hard drive and record even MORE shows)

The only reason anyone would even get DirecTV is if they liked higher monthly prices, higher initial fees (DVR and HD receiver upgrade fees), and NFL Sunday Ticket. But now that Dish has the NFL Network channel, DirecTV has lost it's edge on football fans.

  4. well it will depent of your needs...dishnetwork alot of international channels...but poor  american chanels listing price is a bit more then Directv, disnetwork has a particular box that will allow you to control 2 televisions out one box.(bad thing if it gets damage you have problems on both televisions.

Now...Directv better, lower prices..more HD channels.NFL sunday ticket, and more important its all over the planet, dish network is only in the us.good thing the only nice thing that dish network has is free Playboy tv.....
