Directv contract?

hey,

so i am getting ready to switch to comcast because directv wants to charge me 300 dollars to upgrade to hd dvr..one i will never own, just lease. so i did some reading and found that i might be in a contract. we get our bill online so i went and read it all. i saw no date or anything stating how long i have a contract for? i have been with them for six years.

i did get a directv dvr a year ago. but no one said anything about that extending any contract i may have.

so where would i find my "contract" date on the bill or online.

would getting a non hd dvr extend my contract?

if anyone has any insight ..thanks.

p.s i have tried calling directv but all i get is stall tactics and repeated where "why are you thinking of leaving us?" changing the subject along with attitude from the customer service people.

  1. the only way that I know of to find out is to call them. Don't mention that you want to disconnect your services - and don't answer any questions about looking for other services. If they keep asking why you're asking about the commitment, explain that you are just curious.

Also, another way to know, is that when you activated the DVR, it would have activated a 24-month commitment on the account. If you remember when you had the DVR installed, that'll tell you when your commitment ends.

  2. So you want to switch from 95 hd channels and 150 by September to 55?

Anyway, your contract should be long over - it's only 12 to 24 months.

  3. I _strongly_ recommend against switching to Comcast.
