Can you have directv in an apartment or is only available for homes?

  1. according to FCC regulation, renters cannot deny you any sort of service unless there is a reasonable restriction.

    One good example of a legitimate way they can say no is that they don't want you to mount the dish on the building.

    Now, say the renter allows another tenant to have Dish Network in their residence, they can not say no to your DirecTV. That would be creating an area where one provider has a monopoly on the service and is illegal.

    If the other tenants have cable, however, the renter can still say no DirecTV, considering they are technically two different providers (cable vs. satellite).

    Ways to get around the "reasonable denials" as I call them are to either use a tripod mount on a balcony (very common) or to have the installer do a weighted mount (they put bricks or concrete blocks over a flat panel that lays on a flat roof to hold the dish in place).
