Question:

Directv in two places?

Hi,

I'm new to the whole Directv / Dish network thing, but I hear that it's possible to have two dishes installed at two different locations and have receivers at those two locations and be able to watch TV on one account.

Is this true? Can I really have two dishes and two receivers at different locations?

The legality issue is of course an issue, but will it work? I don't see how companies can track satellite beams/rays. Only the phone line right?

  1. yes, the phone line is the only way that they can tell.

you can have two different dishes and receivers at two different locations.  however, your local channels may not work. for example, if your account was set up in new york, then your locals would be out of new york. but if you took your second receiver to california, your new york locals would not work on your receiver in california. this is because local channels are broadcast on satellites using "spotbeams" instead of "transponders". but if your second location is within about 100 miles of the first location, you shouldn't have any problem.

it is, however, considered satellite p****y. having two locations run off of one account is a felony. but again, there's no way for them to trace it, unless you connect a phone line to the receiver.
