If I have cable jacks already in the rooms that my directv service will be in, will the directv installer still have to drill holes?

  1. If you get a DVR and want to record 1/watch another channel - you need 2 lines to that receiver.  I ended up running my own 2 lines from the connector they ran the lines to from the dish, even though there was a "prewire" - it was only for 1 coax, but I have a basement so I just ran the lines through there and up through the floor.  It's better than where the jack is installed anyway.  Now that you're armed with this info, you can make sure they do it right for you while they're there the first time, right?  Good times.

  2. If you already have cable wired throughout the house, you most likely have a central point where the cables split off from a single line coming into the house.  The installer should be able to connect the lines from the satellite to these cables at this central point.   He may need to drill one hole at this location for the satellite cables, but should not need to drill holes in each room.
