Directv..is it mandatory that if i have a land line?

i won't be ordering pay-per-view and i already have a phone with caller ID so do i really need a phone line to install my Directv? i will be receiving a regular DTV box no DVR or anything like that

No, since your not getting a DVR.

A DVR is set up to order movies check billing, call waiting, play games and other features over the phone. You, wouldn't have a reason for a landline. I had mine taken out but since I have a DVR I still have a monthly charge for the services
