Dirk Kuyt apologizes to fans after the defeat

Liverpool’s season is just going from bad to worse, after an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Blackpool the Reds now find themselves at 18th spot in the Premier League table. Even before that defeat there had been
protests outside Anfield and many had called for changes in the team and the board. However now things are just at the boiling point as after 7 matches in the season, the 18 time league champions find themselves in the danger zone.
It was a shock result for Liverpool who were trailing, at home, 2-0 at half time, and in the end ended up losing 2-1. Liverpool’s Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt has come out and apologised to the Liverpool faithful and admitted that such
a performance is not acceptable.
The first half was completely dominated by the un-fancied Blackpool side; the 2 goal lead in first 45 minutes was by no mean an exaggeration and the visitors did deserve it, Charlie Adam and Luke Varney were the two that headed
in the goals.
The home side was expected to fight back in the 2nd half; Sotirios Kyrgiakos did head one in after the restart to make it 2-1. The Greek defender also went close to netting in an equaliser just before the final whistle
only to be denied by goalkeeper Matt Gilks. But still a draw would have been not much better following another shameful display.
Alan Hansen, the former Liverpool captain said that it was a disgrace for the club, and Kuyt also admitted that this is probably the worst time for the club in a very long time.
"It was really, really disappointing," said the Dutchman,
"It's probably one of the hardest defeats I've had to take since I've been here and we're sorry for the fans.
"The first thing we have got to do is make sure we start winning games again and then we can begin to take things from there."
Liverpool fans must be fuming at the sight of their team in the relegation zone, but still they cannot do much about it for at least 2 weeks, as Premier League will take a back seat since international matches are scheduled for
next week with Euro 2012 qualifiers due to take place.
Next match in the league for Liverpool is the all important Mersey side Derby and with Everton also not doing so well and in 17th place it would be even more important for both of them to get something out of the match.
These derbies tend to bring out the best and the worst from Liverpool and Everton. If Liverpool does manage to carve out a convincing win against Everton it may go a long way towards calming down the fuming fans.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he needs some more time to get things right at Anfield, and Kuyt said that he has no doubts that his team will be able to turn it around soon.
"It is still early days for the manager and we have to keep working but one thing I do know is that we will come back stronger for this experience," he added.
"It's frustrating that we have got the international break now because we will have this result hanging over us and everyone in the dressing room wants to put it behind us as quickly as possible.
The season is still just 7 games old and for sure Liverpool have ample time on their hands to turn it around. The Reds manager had admitted even after first 2 games that winning the league may be beyond them but they would make
sure they get the all important 4th spot come the end of the season.
Kuyt said that there are 31 games left in the season, and that is enough time for his team to get things right. He added that the team showed good spirit in the 2nd half and if they can carry it forward good things may
be around the corner.
"We know this result has not helped but we just have to try to focus on the spirit we showed in the second half.
"We have got to make sure we show it in the next game."
