Dirk Kuyt believes Liverpool is on the road to improvement
English Premier League club Liverpool is facing massive problems on and off the field, with the club currently lying in the drop zone. There is also a soap opera going on at the top of the club, where the decision to sell the club hangs in the balance.
Staying away from all the sell-off talks, Liverpool’s Dutch Striker Dirk Kuyt believes that the team has been making decent progress under the new manager. He added that yes the results have not been reflecting that but maybe it would take some time for
the players to get used to the new system before they can actually start getting the desired results.
Liverpool suffered shocking 3rd defeat of the season, as they were beaten by Blackpool 2-1; the club now lies in 18th place and this represents their worst start to the season in more than 5 decades, marking this season to be their
relegation.
However, the disastrous performance in recent games has been overshadowed to some degree by the off field shenanigans. The board of directors at the club have agreed a bid from New England Sports Ventures, but the club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett
have decided to contest the decision in high court so the drama is set to go on for a while now.
Kuyt though remains optimistic and said that there has been a lot of improvement and that is very visible on the training grounds, he added that when a new manager takes over it takes some time for the manager and the players to understand each other. He
added that Roy Hodgson is a great manager and one who really listens to the players. Kuyt who will be taking part in the Euro 2012 qualifiers for Netherlands this week said that Hodgson is a man liked by everyone in the squad and everyone has certain amount
of respect for him. The Dutch striker went on to say that Hodgson managed to convince Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to stay, which was integral for the team. He added that the former Fulham boss had done wonders at Craven Cottage and that shows that the
man can do the job right. However, the results produced at Craven Cottage required some time as he took a while settling down. Similarly, good results would also follow at Anfield, required the manager is given some time to strengthen his base here.
"If you could see the training sessions, you could see the progress that is being made every day, we have been working really hard and we believe in ourselves. The progression is there and I believe it's just a matter of time before it comes out on the pitch
and the good results will follow”.
"We are working hard on playing with the shape of the team that the manager likes to use and we have been making progress”.
"We didn't have a lot of time in pre-season to work on things but it is definitely starting to come together." said Kuyt
Roy Hodgson took Fulham to the final of Europa League last season against all odds, the team normally associated with bottom half of League table managed to finish in top 10. But still the biggest part of last season was the journey to the final, on their
way they ran over some of the biggest names in European football.
When Hodgson took over Liverpool, he had made it clear that he was going to be realistic; his first task was to keep hold of Gerrard and Torres which he managed to do. Now if he can end the season in top 4 all would be forgiven, however, given the way things
have gone for the reds it seems like a very long shot.  Still if current form and other issues are put aside, there is enough quality and depth in the Liverpool squad to make a good fight of making to the final Champions’ League spot.
