Dirk Kuyt tips Andy Carroll to shine at Liverpool next season – EPL News
Liverpool attacker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 has backed the Reds’ talismanic striker Andy Carroll to shine in the ongoing 2011/12 English Premier League season and believes that the English striker has all the attributes to become a legend at Anfield.
Andy Carroll joined Liverpool as a replacement of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 from Newcastle United for a record transfer fee of £35 million on the deadline day of the January 2011 transfer window.
However, the towering English striker failed to justify his transfer fee during his first six months at Anfield. Carroll’s start to life at Liverpool was plagued with injuries as the English striker was recovering from an injury when the Reds’ signed him.
The former Newcastle United striker took two months to fully regain his fitness and made only seven appearances for Liverpool.
However, the 22-year-old forward is now fully fit and has been a consistent member of Dalglish’s squad during club’s pre-season friendly matches in the last two months.
The English striker hugely impressed and gave some outstanding performances in Liverpool’s summer friendly matches. Kuyt has hailed Carroll’s pre-season form and believes that the English striker can end the current campaign as Liverpool’s top scorer.
The Dutchman believes that Carroll is a complete forward who has outstanding aerial presence along with accurate shooting. Kuyt reckons that the English striker will play a huge role in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s bid to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League.
Kuyt told the reporters, “Andy is very strong in the air and you can also play it into his feet. He’s going to be top quality for us this season.”
The former Newcastle United player scored in the last two friendly games and Kuyt is hopeful that the 22-year-old forward will continue his goalscoring form throughout the season.
“Now he’s had a full pre-season and has scored in his last two games. He’s a top quality striker and I’m sure he will do well and score goals for us this season,” the Dutch international added.
The Dutchman has also hailed Liverpool’s plethora of attacking options and believes that players’ like Carroll can bring the Merseyside club back into European competition.
Kuyt believes that the English striker will be able to make a formidable attacking partnership with Luis Suarez and added, “Carroll is a very good player, a strong player. I like him. He is difficult to mark because he is strong with head and also on the
pitch. I don’t think too many defenders will like facing him.”
Andy Carroll started and played the entire 90 minutes in Liverpool’s opening fixture against Sunderland at Anfield which ended as a 1-1 draw.
