Dirk Nannes pleased with his selection as a reserve for the ICC World Cup 2011
Australian paceman Dirk Nannes was surprised at his selection as a standby for any injured fast bowler at the ICC World Cup 2011, but the 34-year-old bowler said that he was excited about the opportunity given to him.
The determined fast bowler stated, “It's certainly unexpected, I was just having fun on the farm on the weekend and got the phone call. I'm rapt to be going over; I'm not really sure what sort of role I'm going to play.”
He further added that it was not ideal to be in the squad as a reserve, and wait for injuries to the first choice bowlers. However, the left-arm pacer claimed that being a part of the team in a mega event was a huge thing, and he was looking forward to it.
Nannes was also excited about playing under Ricky Ponting. He said, “I've never been part of the one-day setup and the way that operates, I've never been under Ricky Ponting, so it will be massively beneficial to my cricket.”
Even though http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c1197, Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson have done a good job for the Aussies so far in the World Cup, Nannes will be quite handy for his team if any of them gets injured during the tournament.
Nannes will not be the only Australian travelling to Subcontinent for the ICC World Cup 2011. He will be joined by star Australian batsman Michael Hussey, who has been named as the replacement for the injured Doug Bollinger.
Hussey was in the initial plans of the Australian selectors, but the stylish middle-order player suffered a hamstring injury just before the start of the World Cup. He had to undergo surgery, which forced him out of the final 15-member squad for the mega
event.
The ankle injury to Bollinger opened the door for several players to represent Australia in the World Cup. The likely names included those of Hussey, Nannes and aggressive fast bowler Peter Siddle.
The selectors didn’t announce Bollinger’s replacement straight away, and the waiting game proved to be good for Nannes and Hussey. The veteran batsman represented Western http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 to prove his form and fitness
to the selectors.
Even though he only managed 30 runs in two innings, the selectors decided to draft him into the World Cup squad.
