Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry: Top Performers from game-1 of 2011 Western Conference Finals: Part-1
Dallas Mavericks – Oklahoma City Thunder
Dirk Nowitzki
The German sharp-shooter Dirk Nowitzki was a handful for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the game-1 of the Western Conference Finals and spearheaded his team with an electrifying performance. The influential power forward blistered
away with a game-high 48 points, clutched 6 rebounds and handed out 4 assists as he powered the Mavericks for a comprehensive 121-112 victory at the American Airlines Centre on Tuesday night.
There was no stopping for the veteran player once he took the charge with his flawless shooting. Nowitzki was right on the money from the charity strip and buried 24 free throws, most in the game from 24 attempts. His brilliance
was quite an exhibit from the field as well as he connected 12 shots out of 15 attempts and didn’t give any room to the Thunder defenders to guard him.
Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said on Dirk’s commanding performance, "He's been doing it for many years against a lot of great players. He had good rhythm. He got off to a good start. He was making shots and we were fouling
his jump shots. That's too many fouls. We've got to do a better job of guarding him. We have to make some adjustments, and we will."
Dirk headed out imposingly in the preliminary four minutes of the game and scored 10 points of that gave Dallas a comprehensive 12-6 lead early on.
The All-Star carried the action into the halftime and smashed the opposition with another 11 points to keep his team on the frontline. Nowitzki was absolutely ripping the Thunder apart and didn’t show any signs of retreat throughout
the night. Dirk’s dominating second half performance with 27 points restricted the Oklahoma City to strike back as the home team wrapped up an outstanding win.
Jason Terry
The prolific bench player Jason Terry was right there to support the top scorer of the night Nowitzki in a high scoring game and kept the score board ticking for the Dallas Mavericks down the stretch. The 33-year-old guard racked
up 24 points, half of them coming from beyond the arc. Jason buried four blistering 3-pointers and connected 50 percent field goal attempts.
Once Dirk laid a strong hold in the game during the first two quarters, Terry didn’t let his super efforts go in vain and carried the action tremendously after halftime. Jason landed 7 points apiece in the last two periods including
two scorching blows from downtown as the Dallas Mavericks romped towards a magnificent victory to take 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Conference finals.
