Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James: Top performers from game-2 of NBA Finals
On Thursday night, in game-2 of the NBA finals, Dallas Mavericks initiated one of the most remarkable comebacks in the history of NBA Finals. Trailing by as many as 15, midway through the fourth, the Mavs romped to 22-5 run and stunned the Miami Heat 95-93. The victory tied the best-of-seven series at one apiece.
Here is an overview of some of the most noticeable performances that sparked the game:
Dirk ‘Clutch’ Nowitzki
Dirk Nowitzki showed no signs of injury on the night and scooped out a team-high 24 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Suffering from a torn tendon in his left middle finger, Big Dirk played for 42 plus minutes in the game. He was simply magnificent down the stretch and scored the last nine points for his team, including a game winning layup with 3.6 seconds remaining. The German sharpshooter pinned 3-for-3 free throws along with 1-of-2 three-pointers in the victory. The veteran All-Star finished with a 10-for-22 shooting from the field.
Shawn Marion turns it on
The Mavericks forward Shawn Marion made some significant contributions for the Mavs. Out of his nine made field goals, six were either layups or dunks. Marion played his playoff-high 41 minutes and added 20 points in the victory. Additionally, he grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked one shot on the defensive end.
Jason Terry comes alive down the stretch
Dallas guard Jason Terry came back into his groove in the game-2. He came off the bench to score 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting and a team-high five assists. The 33-year-old scored eight points in the 22-5 game-winning run, including six straight points at the start as Dallas bounced back from an 88-73 fourth-quarter deficit. Terry made three of five shots in the final stanza.
Dwyane Wade’s best game of the postseason
The Heat guard Dwyane Wade played his best game of the postseason and added a game-high 36 points, shooting 13-for-20 from the field. The 29-year-old also added six assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Unfortunately, Miami wasted all his efforts. Wade’s transition three-pointer with 7:14 left in the final buzzer put the Heat ahead by 15 points. However, Wade missed a desperate three-point effort in the closing seconds that could have given the Heat a victory.
LeBron James’ 20-point spurt
Forward LeBron James also had a productive night as he finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals for the Heat. James shot 8-of-15 from the field. However, the productivity of King James in the fourth quarter was very low as compared to the previous four games. He added just two points as Miami lost its drive in the final stretch.
