Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks thrash Boston Celtics 89 – 73 – NBA Recap
Dallas Mavericks talisman Dirk Nowitzki put in a star shift as the reigning NBA World Champions defeated the Boston Celtics in impressive fashion. The Mavericks dominated against the Eastern Conference giants’ right from the start, and didn’t falter once
in the course of the match as they secured the 89 – 73 win at the American Airlines Center.
Nowitzki was in fine form, scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds for a double-double with just around 30 minutes on the court. Jason Terry came off the bench to lend him a hand with 16 points while Shawn Marion scored 11.
The Celtics were always going to find it tough without star point guard Rajon Rondo, suspended, and veteran forward Kevin Garnett.
In their absence Paul Pierce steadied the ship with a team high 20 points while Ray Allen added 15. Avery Bradley was the only other player to get into double digits, he had 12 points.
After a level start to the game, the Dallas Mavericks started to pull away with little bursts. 5 straight points from Nowitzki took them to 13- 6, and the Mavs were able to maintain their advantage until the end of the first segment, score 20 – 15.
Mavs continued their attack with an early 7 – 2 spurt in the 2nd quarter. Soon after came a scorching 8 – 0 run, that took their advantage into double digits, 35 – 21. Boston Celtics were able to marginally reduce the deficit, but at halftime
still trailed at 44 – 34.
Dallas’s hot streaked continued after the interval. The Celtics were not able to slow them down in the third frame and the Mavs took advantage, piling on 26 points. In reply, the hapless Celtics could only manage 19, meaning that they went further behind,
the score 70 – 53.
A tame final stanza followed. Boston couldn’t put any decent run together once more while the Mavericks appeared to take their foot off the gas, allowing time to run out for a resounding 89 – 73 win.
The loss continues a worrying trend for the Boston Celtics who have failed to get their NBA 2011-2012 season on track so far.
