Dirk Nowitzki believes he still has two seasons before he starts contemplating future – NBA Update
Dirk Nowitzki has been around in NBA for 14 magnificent seasons and the gentle German giant is now heading towards the twilight of his career.
Nowitzki is probably one of the best power forwards in the league at the moment and his ability to shoot the ball is unmatchable at times. He may have hit his prime in the latter stages of the career but by winning the 2011 NBA
Championship he has established himself as the best foreign player of all times.
However, there is no hiding the fact that the 34 year old is in the final stages of his career and the question remains how long can Nowitzki stay motivated.
The very same question was popped by one of his fans on Twitter recently and Nowitzki revealed his plans in response.
According to the player, he still has two years left in the tank and after that he will think about whether to carry on playing or hang up his boots.
Nowitzki has been a Dallas Maverick for his entire NBA career, ever since he was drafted as the 9th overall pick in 1998. He has been involved in 1055 games and has logged in 38,314 minutes which ranks sixth among the
active players. He has averaged 22.9 points and 8.3 rebounds during the regular seasons for his career.
But, it is during the playoffs when the sharp shooting forward actually starts going. He averages double-double figures of 25.9 points and 10.3 rebounds and it was his performances a year back that led to the first ever NBA Championship
for the Mavs.
However in the last season, Nowitzki seemed visibly uninterested and had to take a long break in between the shortened season to tune up both physically and mentally. Even after his return, the level of motivation and the hunger
to succeed was nowhere close to what the NBA fans and the Mavericks are used to seeing.
To make the matter worse, the Mavs have lost almost their entire championship winning roster to free agency and trades, and are by no means a genuine championship contender now. There have been many voices recently that Nowitzki
might want to leave Dallas given the situation, but the German also put a full stop to those rumours, vowing to ‘bleed blue’ even at the end of his career.
