Dirk Nowitzki excited about his list of appointments as he travels to Germany with the Dallas Mavericks – NBA News
As NBA teams begin training camp and prepare themselves for the preseason games, there is one team that has taken a rather creative and different approach to prepare themselves for the upcoming season. The Dallas Mavericks are
flying their whole team to Germany, followed by Spain, as part of their preseason exhibition calendar. And that has the Mavericks franchise player Dirk Nowitzki very excited.
Nowitzki, arguably the most successful European player ever in the NBA, will be travelling to his home country of Germany with the Mavericks for the first time, where his NBA team is scheduled to play against the German basketball
club Alba Berlin. And Nowitzki was unable to hide his excitement in anticipation of playing in front of home crowd, asking the NBA to arrange for 100 tickets for his family and friends.
“That's not bad for having never played in Germany. I told the NBA, for all the c**p I've been doing for them for 14 years, they better hook me up with a bunch of tickets,” said Nowitzki jokingly.
The Mavericks will have a busy schedule in Germany before they depart for Spain, where they will also play an exhibition game against FC Barcelona. Nowitzki is a big star in Germany, and the Mavericks are ensuring that every step
of his trip is well planned and documented. Nowitzki will meet with executives from a German media conglomerate, make an appearance at a Nike store, refurbish a park with his team mates at an NBA Cares event, and receive an award at a black tie event. Squeezed
in between this busy schedule are two practices for the Mavericks, a shoot around and a Saturday night game against Alba Berlin. It’s safe to say that the Mavericks are planning to fully cash in on their European tour, while also helping the NBA grow the game
of basketball outside of America.
"The only thing not scheduled for him is sleep,” said Mavericks PR man Scott Tomlin, who will be guiding Nowitzki through his list of appointments in Germany. However, with all the excitement and glamour, the Mavericks can hopefully
get a few good practice sessions with the new roster, so that the team develops some chemistry with each other because the Western Conference is looking very deep next season.
