Dirk Nowitzki frustrated by the Dallas Mavericks slump – NBA News
The Dallas Mavericks have been in shambles of late and even the return of their ace forward Dirk Nowitzki has failed to inspire them. On Sunday, the 2011 NBA Champions lost their 8th game in last nine when they surrendered
to the minnows New Orleans Hornets in overtime and that too at home.
Dallas’s demise, which has put them on the verge of losing out on a playoff spot for the first time in 12 years, has primarily been due to Mark Cuban, who let go of Tyson Chandler and a host of other stars from the championship
winning side, with a hope to bring newer, more stronger, faces around the German sharp shooter, who has entered the twilight of his career. That never happened though. The Chris Paul opportunity came and passed, Dwight Howard’s trade never materialized and
after Deron Williams opted to stick with the Brooklyn Nets this summer, all Mavericks were left with were was Nowitzki, and a host of unproven players, some of them well past their prime.
And now that the Mavs are falling freely, Nowitzki who was supposed to have a ferry tale end to his illustrious career, is getting frustrated;
"It's going to be tough now," Nowitzki said after the Mavs' home overtime loss. "I always liked to think you don't want to build your franchise on hope.
"We hoped for Deron last year. We hoped for Dwight. Why would he leave the Lakers? To me, it makes no sense. He's in a great situation. Why would CP3 leave? (The Los Angeles Clippers are) the best team in the league probably right
now. They're probably the deepest team. So are you going to hope that we get something?
With Cuban dismantling his team, followed by the off season exits of Jason Terry and Jason Kidd, it was only a matter of time before the Mavericks felt the pinch. That time was averted for sometime by a certain O.J. Mayo. The shooting
guard has however been in a slump for some time now, and the Mavericks have now got the third worst record in the Western Conference.
That is something Mavs and Nowitzki have not been familiar with for over a decade.
