Dirk Nowitzki scores 35 as the Dallas Mavericks outshine the Phoenix Suns 112-106
On Thursday night at US Airways Center, the seven foot tall German sharp shooter, Dirk Nowitzki erupted with 35 points as the Dallas Mavericks squeaked out a 112-106 win over the Phoenix Suns in front of their home crowd.
Dallas have now won 13 of their last 14 game and are placed at the second spot in the Western Conference. Channing Frye 3-pointer with 17.3 seconds left on the clock, escalated an intense situation as the Suns reduced the deficit
to 109-106. However, a couple of free throws in the defining moments of the play resulted in 112-106 victory for the Mavs.
Channing Frye scored a team-high 24, Carter 16 and Nash gathered 15 points for Phoenix Suns as they kept their side in a competitive position throughout the play. Phoenix Suns still haven’t defeated Dallas and San Antonio Spurs
this season in the Western Conference.
Despite of achieving 5 of 18 3-pointer attempts, Suns managed to stay close with the Mavericks from the beginning till the end.
The first quarter was slightly dominated by the visiting team which guided them towards 28-25 lead. Nowitzki scored 8 points in the first period form where he never stopped. Home team showed some spectacular resistance for a second
quarter tie 26-26 as Mavericks sustained their 3 points lead into the halftime.
Phoenix Suns started the third quarter aggressively as they strived tremendously and succeeded to cut down the deficit by taking 61-59 lead in the first three minutes. Dirk replied with a 3-pointer shot followed by a pair of free
throws to snatch back the advantage. The whole period went unpredictable as both the teams gave a tough time to each other.
Unlucky for the home team, Dallas scored 9 points in the last 2 minutes of the third period restricting the opposition to reach the bucket and once again took the lead 85-80 that was regained by the home team.
The visiting team’s 5 points advantage in the final quarter was the turning point of the game that was slightly too much for the home team to overcome with Nowitzki’s inexorable shooting. Although, Suns managed to strike back to
reduce the lead to 3 points in the final second however free throws came in their way and Dallas cherished another victory for the season.
Dallas Mavericks is the fourth team of the season to acquire 40 wins. They have shown an outstanding performance in their recent games dominating the opposition completely. All the top teams in both the Conferences are becoming
increasingly competitive as the championship arrives except the two-time defending champion Lakers. This shows that they are already prepared to supply their best in the upcoming big games to increase the numbers for the favorites this year.
