Dirk Nowitzki: ‘we partied harder in 2006’ - NBA Update
Dirk Nowitzki, the German sharp shooter, who was the MVP in the recently concluded National Basketball Association Finals revealed in an interview that he and the Mavericks partied harder when Miami Heat beat them in the 2006 NBA
Finals
"I actually think we partied harder in '06 when we lost just to forget about it than we did now”. He said, "In '06, 'JET' [Jason Terry] picked me up for the party bus almost every day, and we went somewhere just to make us forget
and have a good time. We ended up in Vegas after three hard weeks.”
Nowitzki was referring to the Mavs loss in the 2006 NBA finals against the Miami Heat. The defeat was hard to gulp down for Nowitzki and company as Dallas were 2-0 up in the series before the Heat rattled them to take the series
4-2.
In 2011, the game winning ratio was the same as it was in 2006, but the team which lifted the trophy was not Miami. The Mavs and Nowitzki settled the scores with the Heat this year and defeated the mighty South Beach franchise.
Nowitzki said
"This year, we've had a couple of good nights, but I'm 33. My body can't recover, so you have to party one day, and the next day you have to be off. You can't go back-to-back when you're that old. Partying once in a while gets
old."
The Dallas Mavericks have won the first title in the history of the franchise and the city has also celebrated its first professional championship of any kind after a very long time (more than a decade).
This made the franchise eligible for long lasting festivities. Mark Cuban the owner of the Mavs was so excited that he slept while keeping the championship trophy next to him in the bed. Later when the team landed at the airport,
Cuban was the first to come out of the plane with the trophy in his hand. Subsequent to Mark C was Nowitzki with his MVP trophy.
Nowitzki, who scored at an average of 23.0 in the 2010-11 regular-season, lifted his game in the postseason and enhanced his numbers significantly, scored 27.7 points in each game. Besides scoring Dirk clutched 8.1 rebounds and
swatted 2.5 assists in every game.
With this victory Nowitzki was finally able to get rid of the ‘soft’ tag which was attached to him earlier and has now established his reputation of the best European basketball player ever to grace NBA.
