Dirk Nowitzki would like to have Deron Williams on his side at the Dallas Mavericks – NBA Update
Dallas Mavericks talisman Dirk Nowitzki has said that he would appreciate Deron Williams’ arrival at the franchise if it were to happen. The German star also said he expected changes at Dallas over the summer and was hopeful of a successful campaign in the
next NBA season.
Mavericks had a below par season this year because of the many changes the team underwent in the offseason as well as Dirk’s injury issues and somewhat diminished performances. The Mavs were defending NBA World Champions when the campaign started but lost
to the Oklahoma City Thunder 4 – 0 in the first round of the playoffs.
The team has become significantly weaker with the likes of Tyson Chandler, who won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award this season, among others, leaving the side in the offseason. Dirk knows that even more players are set to leave as contracts come
to an end in this summer and he understands that a lot of changes have to be made.
In the circumstances, a star player like Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets would be a welcome addition.
“We are losing a lot of guys from our team, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in July. We would love to get a prime time player like D-Will in, but that’s not an our thing right now. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens in July.” Dirk
said according to sportsradiointerviews.com
Williams is a native of Dallas and will opt out of his contract with the Nets this summer, becoming a free agent. He is rumoured to be interested in a move to the Mavs, who have made no secret of their desire to have him on the roster either.
That though is still in the future, but the Mavericks have a number of other matters to handle. Chief among was extending the stay of coach Rick Carlisle, something that has now been sorted out, much to Nowitzki’s delight.
“I think there are a lot of decisions coming in that we have to make and I think with getting coach [Rick Carlisle] out of the way was great and now we know who is coach for the next four years. I think he did a tremendous job, so that’s already one decision
off the books.”
