Dirk Nowitzki would “love” to have Deron Williams join him at the Dallas Mavericks – NBA Update
As the free agency draws closer teams around the NBA are getting ready to chase after some very talented players available this time around. None is perhaps as highly coveted as the Brooklyn Nets super star Deron Williams, who has been courted by the Dallas
Mavericks since a long time.
Now Mavericks super star Dirk Nowitzki has joined the chorus of voices asking of Williams to come over to Dallas, saying that he would love to play alongside someone of the Brooklyn point guard’s calibre.
"It's obvious that we would love to have him," Nowitzki said, "but so would a lot of other teams. He's a great dude and he's from here, so I think it would be a great fit. But hey, that's not my decision."
The German power forward led Dallas Mavericks to a NBA World Championship in the 2010 – 2011 NBA season and is hoping that the lure of a championship calibre side can prove enough for Deron to buy in.
The Mavericks also have the added advantage of playing in Dallas, where Williams grew up and where he has a lot of family. All things considered, the Mavericks do appear a suitable platform for Deron to chase after higher honours in the NBA, and Nowitzki
knows that the point guard would have thought about it.
"He's got a big decision to make and I'm sure it's been a decision that's been brewing," Nowitzki said. "It's not like he found out he's a free agent yesterday.”
In the end though Dirk and everyone else at Dallas can only hope that Williams decides to join the team and revitalize it as they get ready to launch another assault for the NBA World Championship. The Mavericks have cleared cap space at great expense to
accommodate Deron and now it is up to the All-Star to decide.
"He's been sitting on this for quite a while. I'm sure he has something already up in his mind, and I guess nobody knows but himself."
Dallas are one of two potential suitors for Deron; the other being his current team the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets just moved into a new arena and can offer Williams much more money than the Mavericks can.
