Dirt bike knowledge on kx 250?

Question

My friend is selling his kx 250 dirt cheep, and i wana buy it, but i dont wana test ride it and look like a fool, the only bikes ive ridden in the past was a rmz 125 and a crf 250f, any knowledge or info on how to start riding on the bike successfully, such as how hard i have to hit the gass, would be appreciated. Thanks

ummmm there's nothing wrong with it. you should have posted the year... but it's a great bike. very fast.

it's a great bike real fast. If your not used to riding a bigger 2-stroke then just be easy on the throttle until you get used to it other wise you will stand it straight up, when you hit power band. Good luck riding and have fun be safe.

Funny you should ask this question now .  I recently purchased a 2001 KX250 and didn't test ride it either.  It had piston slap and I told the guy I was afraid it was going to detonate and didn't want to be responsible for a top end if it did while I was riding.  I asked him test ride it while I listened to the bike as he rode.  I also used this to negotiate a really low price.  I checked the bike out very thoroughly before and after he rode it and ended up with a great bike after replacing the piston and rings.  So my answer to you is to check it thoroughly and let him ride it while you pay close attention to the sounds it's making while he's riding.  If you aren't used to riding a 2 stroke 250 it won't matter if you ride it then or not as you won't be accustomed to how it's supposed to feel anyway.  Good Luck
