I'm considering buying a 2005 KTM125sx, will it be able to keep up with a yz250f. I have heard it can because it is a 2 stroke and the 250 is a 4 stroke, and also from experience how much more power does a fatty pipe add on the KTM.

thanx allot

  1. it wont keep up with the 250f although it wont be far off. the ktm is the fastest 125 but the fourstroke has more torque and is easier to use. im not sure what the fatty pipe will add with fourstrokes the pipes do add power but with two strokes its normlly a case of stealing power from one end to put it at the other the fatty pipe probley loses a bit up top to give more bottem end wich is good as bottom end is more important especially for a normall rider

  2. rpm wise the 125 would be better but the four stroke would be much easier to ride so in turn would make you faster

  3. I agree with James that you will be at a slight disadvantage against the 4 stroke 250cc.  The four strokes have more even power and easier to manage.

My son races both the 2 stroke 125cc and the 4 stroke 250cc and when the class is combined and he has to choose he usually rides his 125cc simply as he is small in size and can throw it around a bit easier.  He usually has to ride the pants off of it and what he gains by cornering better due to ability he loses with the 4 strokes being a bit faster down the straights.

I don't know if a different pipe would make a difference.

  4. im pretty sure it wont beat a 250f only because its only a two stroke. now im not saying it couldnt catch up. on a straight away the two stroke has a powerband which im sure you know about that. so when a two stroke hits that it can fly by it until you slow down. i also cant say much becasue it really depends how you ride so cant say mmuch because if you are little being on a smaller bike would be better but you might need more motor. so try it out is probably the best advise.

  5. dont buy the 125.. the power wont hold up to the 250.. esspesially cuz its a 4 stroke.. also the 4 strokes are much easier to manage, no mixing gas,  which realyy gets to be a hassle after a while withe the 2 strokes. also the power out of the corrners with the 125 will not even compair the what the 250 pulls out.. good luck . have fun
