Dirty Hotels?

Question

After hearing of a programme on tv recently about the cleanliness of hotels I am seriously worried about going away in a week or 2. I have heard that some room attendants clean the cups and tooth mugs with the toilet brush..I am taking my own cups now. I have also heard that its not unknown for some disgusting guests to wee or worse in the kettles... I am taking my own!

Is there anything else i should watch out for, I am taking my own pillow but its getting ridiculous now.

u should research the hotel ur staying at on the tripadvisor website. They have lots of reviews, and pictures.

I think these are very rare circumstances. But it is disgusting that people can do that.

pay for a spendy hotel and you got nothing to worry.

Always push the comforter back and just use the sheets.

Sheets are changed daily but comforters are seldom changed.

Yep. I saw that one too. I was shocked, The Mayfair cost a fortune to stay and they pay peanuts to their workers and they cant even get the clean clothes and linen sorted. Its a disgrace. But there is one way of being sure------find a place you want to go to and stay, and BEFORE you book, log on to trip adviser and check the comments for that place left by other guests. Still not sure, ring the hotel and see how they handle your query,ie Is there a pool/steam room etc and do they have a code of conduct and awards for food / hygiene / fire / customer care. If they don't speak English or not helpful then ask to speak to the duty manager and tell them they have just lost a booking.

Yes, some wet the bed, better take one of those, and God knows what they do on the carpet.

We only had one bad experience in a hotel. It was a well-known national chain. The bathtub was filthy and there were "stains" on the comforter....we requested a refund so we could go elsewhere but were at first denied by the desk clerk. I kindly asked for their "800 number", then at that point, the clerk refunded our money AND apologized.

My mum saw that and hasn't stopped talking about it for about a week, it was posh hotels aswell.

its proberly like a low star that these things happen in. don't worry if these things are happening and the hotel does nothing they could get put out of business especially if someone becomes ill from it.

yeah watch out for peep holes in the shower, and a receptionist who mutters yes mother im just coming!

If you start worrying that much before a vacation, you might as well stay home.  I have stayed at many hotels in my life.  I never got sick or anything from staying in them.  You have to just live life and try not to worry.  Things can  happen anywhere so just try not to listen to everything you hear.  Just be aware and keep it in the back of your mind.  The world has become a very disturbing place with people doing all kinds of horrible things, but this is our new world.  Just try to relax and have a good vacation.
