My mum who is a pensioner and lives alone has been receiving phone calls in the middle of the night from a man who says disgusting things to her. She is really scared and just unplugs her phone. When my little girl stayed at her nans recently, the phone woke her up in the night and before my mum could get to it my five year old had already answered it. She heard the most disgusting things and i'm very angry. Will the police do anything to trace this piece of **** or will she just be advised to change her number. (which she doesn't want to do) please help.

  1. I`m afraid changing her number is the only option. B.T don`t charge for this service.

  2. My adivse is just scare them off thats what i do, i had some one do it to me recently i threatened to phone the cops if that doesnt work actually phone the cops tell them about the five year old daughter and they can scan incoming calls or some thing like that..

  3. last time that happened to me i let the freak drivel on

i  handed the phone to a man who listened for a bit then

said 'that sounds nice perhaps we could meet'.  I still laff when i think about it, sure got rid of him.

  4. The calls most probably are coming from a public phone box and the chances of catching anyone is impossile. It is better for your Mum to change her number. You don't know how long these calls can last for, they can go on for years.

  5. Report it to BT.

In the short term, buy an old-fashioned pea whistle.

Blow it REALLY HARD right down the phone, next time he calls.

  6. I had this. If in the UK report this to British Telecom. My Ma who lived alone was also troubled by this, her idea was to keep a police-type whistle by the phone and blow it into the phone. She was never bothered again.

I got nuisance calls often in the middle of the night (you dread that it is bad news rather than some idiot doing whatever it is they are doing). I opted to have a new unlisted number and withold details on 1471 and have never regretted it.

  7. Take a look in the front of your BT fone book, under malicious calls, follow the advice there. Make sure to inform the police too.

  8. ok first, does she have caller ID? and call the police!!! this guy is like, freaky!! call 911!! and have the police check who calls her, because this is just wrong!!

  9. I would suggest she contacts BT who will advise. A loud referee whistle would be handy also. I think they have a scheme where they intercept "out of hours calls"

  10. she should change her phone number, and if it persist call the police

  11. I'm thinking you're probably in the UK (we don't say "mum" on this side of the pond).  Not sure what the legal routine is there, but in the US such calls are reported to the police and the telephone company.  Your mum will want to get a Caller ID box if she doesn't have one already, and record which numbers this knucklehead is using and then provide that information when she makes her report.

In the US, victims of such abuse can have their telephone number changed at no charge.

  12. That happened to us!

Ages ago tho the police can track it if you into your local police station.

Were with BT tho so i dont know about virgin (ntl)

  13. Answer the call and leave the caller on the line. Just leave the phone on the side, and he can talk to himself all night, at his own expense.

  14. get in touch with the police and they with the help of the phone company you are with will monitor your calls and when he next calls will try and trace his call do this ASAP the sooner you do this the sooner they can try and catch him
