Hi!, I'm a disabled USA citizen, first wife was usa citizen, I added her to my foodstamp, housing, and medical programs, it was not a problem, with her. I've remarried she's from Jordan. My relative helped co-sponsor, and promised they'll, pay her expenses, I do have enough to share with her without money from my family, but government programs say let us know if someone lives with you, so I must add her to the program files: Section 8 and foodstamps, maybe medical emergency too. ( not to ask for more money, but to follow rules). We signed I864 Affidavit of Support for my wife, to prove she will not be a Public Charge, the USCIS said she will not be if she accepts foodstamps, housing, or medical, as long as cash isn't given to her. Truly, I can handle sharing what I have , but I don't want a hassle by not reporting her living here. She's coming legally. 4 months there was ok, but home is better for me.

PLEASE NO ILL REPLIES, I HAVE POOR HEALTH. IT'S A HARD ENOUGH LIFE !!!

  1. Seems like anything she would get in the way of assistance would come out of her sponsor's pocketbook and not the citizens' pocketbook.

You have to be truthful on any applications you need to file.  If they would find out you didn't give them the proper information, they could take you off their list for aid and make you pay back what you have received.

Best of luck to you and yours.

  2. You should talk to an immigration lawyer about this. Catholic Social Services have good lawyers who only charge you according to your income.

Look for them in your local phone book and call for an appointment. You don't have to be Catholic to use them.

My husband and I had some questions and we were only charged $40 for advice.

Once your wife has settled here she should look for a job preferable with benefits then you won't have to worry about this.

She can apply for citizenship 3 years after she gets her first green card. Once she is naturalized you can breathe a sigh of relief.

Look at http://www.visajourney.com as it's a very good place to ask immigration related questions.

Please you have to know if she is legally in the country and if you are lawfully married to her. If both are true then you wouldn't have any problems. Good luck!!
