I need to disable the firewall for Windows XP so I looked up how to with the Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and what not. So it says to uncheck the box so I did, but the firewall's still there. Any help?

  1. That's because you are doing it wrong.

Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Security Center

From there, click Windows Firewall on the bottom next to Internet Options and Windows Update and bubble Off

  2. What an excellant idea that is!

One should NEVER disable your firewall(s) in order to make a game, a web cam or some program work, it is a major no-no. Your computer can be attacked or infected with worms and viruses in minutes!

Learn how to properly configure your firewall, but never disable it, even for a minute. A firewall is there for a very good reason: to protect you from hackers!

Firewall is your friend, it is not your enemy!
