Disapearing website pop-up menus in internet explorer?

hi, i've created a website through dreamweaver and have noticed that when i preview any of the pages in I.E. my pop up menus will only show one layer of the pop-up and the subheadings will have an "x" on them (for the next layer) until i move the cursor over them, then they work normally as long as the cursor is hovering on top of them. All other browsers work fine and don't have that problem. Any ideas on how to solve the prob ? cheers in advance.
