Disappointed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 wanted a comprehensive victory against Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
England’s Test captain Andrew Strauss is disappointed that his team could not win the recently concluded series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 more comprehensively.
The visitors battled hard on the last day of the third Test at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl to save the series but after a draw, the English managed to win the series by a narrow margin of 1-0.
Strauss was all praise for the Sri Lankan stand-in captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, who scored a magnificent hundred on the last day of the match and did not allow the home team to secure a 2-0 victory.
The England captain said, “We got ourselves in a position to go on and win the game. But fair play to Sangakkara especially, the Sri Lankans blunted our attack and we didn't make the inroads we needed to make."
The left handed opener himself had a very poor series with the bat as he managed a mere 27 runs in the three Test matches. The England captain looked completely out of form against a very inexperienced Lankan bowling attack.
However, his team has been doing pretty well in the longer version of the sport and this is the only reason why Strauss is not facing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 criticism by the English media.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 is scheduled to take on the strong Indian team next month at home and their captain needs to find his form in order to lead his team from the front against the world champions.
The left hander wanted a better result in the series, especially since England want to spruce up their chances of securing the top position in the International Cricket Council’s Test ranking.
"We were a little frustrated not to take a 2-0 win. I think we got ourselves into good positions in all three Test matches and in a way a two-hour session in Cardiff was good enough to get us one result," Strauss added.
England should consider themselves lucky since the Sri Lankan batting collapsed like a house of cards in the first Test, otherwise the series would have ended in a draw.
