Disappointed Andy Murray has to reach Brisbane earlier than planned – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, suffered a terrible loss on the opening day of Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. The 2012 US Open champion was rated amongst the hot favourites for winning the exhibition tournament
held on the hard courts of Zayed Sports City but an all-round onslaught from the world number nine, Janko Tipsarevic, stunned him completely.
The opening encounter of the tournament took merely 84 minutes to conclude and Tipsarevic hunted down the British number one player in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to reach the semi-final round convincingly. Murray couldn’t display
his true potential throughout the contest and kept spilling unforced errors to assist his opponent winning the match. On the other hand, Tipsarevic played his natural game, avoided too many unforced errors and kept clinching crucial points to come out as the
deserving winner.
“I know it’s an exhibition match but it’s not every day you get to play a Grand Slam champion and an Olympic gold medal winner,” said Tipsarevic in utter delight.
Murray’s early exit from Mubadala World Tennis Championship has forced him to reach Brisbane ahead of the scheduled date. He will defend his Brisbane International title against the top class tennis athletes next month and his
early arrival will give him more time to get settled in the atmosphere. The Olympics gold medallist has been training hard in Miami to launch an impactful beginning to the 2013 ATP World Tour. However, his loss to a lower ranked opponent has certainly jolted
his confidence.
“I have some things to work on in the next few weeks but I am looking forward to it,” said the world number three in his post match review. “I have been training very hard in Miami. I enjoy Australia and have played some of my
best tennis there, so I hope that can continue.”
While Murray travels to Brisbane for his title defence, Tipsarevic will take on the world number 11, Nicolas Almagro, in the semi-final of Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Friday’s eve. The other semi-final match will be played
between the world number one, Novak Djokovic, and the fifth ranked Spaniard, David Ferrer.
