Disappointed Ed Herman apologises for loss against Jake Shields – UFC News
Ed Herman was being considered a major threat to Jake Shields return at the middleweight level. However, Herman’s fall to Shields at UFC 150 changed spectacle. Now, Herman feels disappointed, apologising to the fans for his under par performance.
“I should have tried to get up more off bottom. I just had a hard time moving,” admitted Herman who was seen struggling against Shields.
Shields made his comeback at the division after going through an unstable stay at the welterweight level. Jake himself regarded Herman as a major hurdle in his way to the top at the middleweight level. Lucky Shields got through Herman, while the latter is
left to weep over his loss.
“He was real tight game on top, good position, it was just hard for me to get moving and attacking. I'm pretty disappointed. I feel like I didn't fight the way that I can. I'm sorry to the fans and I'm sorry to the UFC. I really feel like I let everybody
down,” Herman added.
Herman lost to Shields via unanimous decision. He was knocked down several times by the American, putting him in a position where most analysts think he was not up to his game.
Herman currently stands with 20 wins and 8 losses in his career. Even though he fought 28 fights, he still is not rated among the top of the line fighters in the division. At UFC 150, it was Herman’s chance to leave an impact but he failed. Instead, he gave
Shields the opportunity to cement his legacy at the division.
On the other hand, Shields was an excellent middleweight fighter who switched to the welterweight division believing it would be better for him. The American suffered quite a lot of career shattering losses, forcing him to reconsider moving up to the middleweight
division.
It seems like Shields is a natural fighter who is unable to switch divisions. He is good at what he does at the middleweight division. After his victory over Herman, Shields is now planning to climb up the ladder. The American mixed martial artist wants
to go for the title shot but he knows he has to grab a couple of wins before he reaches the mark.
