Disappointed Graeme Swann heads home after sustaining injury
Graeme Swann is heading home after sustaining knee and shoulder injuries that have ruled him out of the remaining ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 spinner was disappointed as he spoke to the media after knowing that he cannot continue the tour due to
fitness issues. He played a pivotal role in the historic Ashes triumph against Australia; he is widely hailed as the number one spinner in the world, and continued his impressive form in the battle for the urn that was won by the tourists by a margin of 3-1.
"It's frustrating to return home from the tour early but the priority for me now is the World Cup and getting my body right so that I am able to play an important role for England throughout the tournament," Swann said.
On the other hand Andy Flower, the England team director, confirmed that the spinner would be flying out of Australia at the earliest available flight, He would re-join his family there and try and recuperate for the World Cup set to start in the Indian
sub-continent next month.
"He's unfortunately got a strain in his lower back and that allied with his knee problem means it's best for him to go home and get ready for the World Cup now," Flower said. "It's a big blow, he's an important part of our side,"
Flower added that the injuries have given a chance to the rest of the squad to exhibit their talents at the highest level, players like Chris Woakes and Chris Tremlett have been impressive in the chances they have been given and Flower hopes that the trend
would continue in the remaining matches on tour.
The English team has four matches left in the ODI series which ends on the eve of the world cup where the POMS are placed in group A. They are set to play their matches in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. "One of the areas I've been really happy with on this tour is
the fact that some of our fringe players have come in and done very well," he said.
Flower added that even reserve pacer Tim Bresnan did well in the Tests, while the same was the case with Chris Tremlett.
According to Flower, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 also performed well in the first three limited-overs games, while in Swann’s absence England is set to rely more on Michael Yardy, the left arm spinner who has bowled decently in the first three games yet has not been able
to make steady inroads in the Aussie batting line-up.
The fourth match of the series would be played at the Adelaide Oval tomorrow; a big crowd is expected to turn up at the match being played on Australia Day. The summer has been thus far disappointing for the Adelaide people; the test match there was lost
by the Aussies by an innings, while in the T20 match the English pulled off a 1 wicket win. Despite the wretched run at the start of the tour the Aussies made a sterling comeback in the ODI series. They now have a great chance of wrapping up a series win by
registering a victory at the Adelaide Oval.
