Disappointed Lee Chong Wei responds positively to media questions after returning to Malaysia
World’s top shuttler, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, returned home after losing the Men’s Singles final to Lin Dan of China at the 2011 World Championships and responded to media’s questions in a positive manner, despite being disappointed of not becoming the
first World Champion from Malaysia.
Chong Wei was in pursuit of his first ever title at the World Championships and he played incredible badminton throughout the event. However, in the final, he was facing his old nemesis and arch rival, Lin Dan of China, who always spoils his party in big
tournaments. Lin also defeated Chong Wei in the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Chong Wei is disappointed for the fact that he came near to win but could not just finish the match on both match points. Lin came from down and clinched the title, which is his fourth crown of the World Championships.
While talking about the Men’s Singles final match at the World Championships, Chong Wei said, “That was my best ever match with Lin Dan throughout the years and I guess I was just unlucky not to win.”
He further added, “However I will come back stronger for the London Olympics next year and hopefully I will be mentally stronger then.”
Tey Seu Bock, the singles national coach, said, “I really feel sorry for him because he has given his utmost best and I don’t blame him at all for not achieving the target. In fact, he was playing with blisters on his right feet and it was bleeding badly
after the match. Lady Luck just decided to desert him at that crucial moment in the match.”
The coach further said that both shuttlers have the same standard in physical and tactical aspects of the game. However, Lin Dan has a psychological advantage over Chong Wei, which makes him a favourite for the match.
However, the Malaysian has a firm resolution to make him stronger and better prepared for the 2012 London Olympics, which will also take place at the Wembley Arena. He will start his training after a complete rest for one week as he has been deathly busy
for the last few months.
