Disappointment for St. Louis Cardinals’ Tony La Russa as friend Jim Leyland’s Detroit Tigers lose

As the National League Championship Series draws closer to its end, the St. Louis Cardinals’ team manager Tony La Russa is a bit disappointed to see the Detroit Tigers out of the American League Championship Series. The reason being, that the Tigers manager
Jim Leyland is one of the closest friends of La Russa.
If the St. Louis Cardinals make it to the World Series, it would indeed be a matter of pride. But the excitement of playing in the World Series would understandably be doubled if they had to play the Tigers in it.
The fact that the Tigers have now been driven out of the ALCS as the Texas Rangers swept the best-of-seven game series 4-2, the Cardinals’ team manager is apparently disappointed.
"I felt very, whatever the word is, not sad, but just disappointed for Jim and the Tigers, because that was a lot closer series," he said. "You don't want to get blown out in an elimination game.”
The way the Detroit Tigers made their way into the American League Championship Series, there were a lot of wagers and speculations involved, predicting the team’s smooth ride in the ALCS as well. However, that did not happen.
The Tigers lost their first game 3-2, only to lose the second 7-3. However, they tried to stage a comeback with a 5-2 win in the Game 3 only to be overwhelmed 7-3 on Wednesday. Tigers’ second chance to stay afloat in the series was in Game 5 which they won
7-5.
Nonetheless, the Rangers prevailed on Saturday with a smashing 15-5 win over the Tigers. “The Tigers were very competitive,” La Russa said. “The Rangers had to do a lot to beat them, had to beat them in extra innings.”
With the fate of the ALCS decided, it is now the St. Louis Cardinals which have to redouble their efforts to first win the NLCS and then take on the Texas Ranger in the World Series. With the Tigers out, it will be interesting to see if the Cardinals can
manage to win their series and make it to the World Series.
