This is certainly a very odd happening: Eight Belles broke down after finishing second. This could be very bad.

...

They just euthanized her.

RIP

  1. I know it's so sad and she was so pretty and the only filly. Very unfortunate :(

    RIP Eight Belles

  2. I can't stand horse racing because of that reason. its so sad.

    RIP eight belles

  3. I know and she was the only filly. :(

    RIP Eight Belles

  4. So sad.

  5. I won some money  picking eight belles today. I would gladly used that money to save her life... I feel so sad right now.

I will use the money to make a nice tribute to the great filly.. Eight Belles

  6. Not to offend anyone, but I feel so bad for her. They pushed her to her limit- just for our mere entertainment, and just to win a race for money and fame. It's just like that Linkin' Park song, In the End. She did try so hard, and did AMAZING for a filly.

EDIT: I agree with the answerer before me. I was thinking, "If only they knew a horse died,"

She ended like Barbaro, only her front legs gave, and her suffering was shorter.

  7. I know its soooooooooo sad but the good thing is she at least finished second.... horses are to to beautiful to have their lives ended that way... cuzz im from KENTUCKY,  its in the south and were used to bein on farms and with horses and i luv horses and like I said sad sad way to die horses aree just to beautifull.. but like I said her trainer is garunteed about $75,000 but just so sad

  8. Eight Belles was my favorite in the derby. She was a great horse and beat all those boys to come in second. I just can't believe that they killed her because of two broken ankels, such horrible people. I love animals and can't stand to see them die. We all love you Eight Belles!!!

    Rest In Peace.

  9. Cisco,

I read the answer that you left on the other question concerning Eight Belles and decided to read your answers to other questions, because, personally, I think you are an idiot.

    Just thought you should know.

  10. That is tragic.

  11. She was my pick to win- she went so strong, and I cried when I found out she was put down.  So is the life of a racehorse.

    ADD:  BTW, it's FILLY.

  12. This is awful.  She was an amazing filly... she beat 18 boys to come second and then she died.  And then they show Dutrow and his clan celebrating and I know they're happy, but I felt like it was kind of disrespectful.  I don't even want to talk about the derby... I don't want to hear anything about Big Brown.  I feel miserable about Eight Belles.  It makes you wonder if it wouldn't have happened if she ran yesterday instead.

  13. It is a sad situation.  I'm glad they euthanized her on the spot, instead of prolonging her pain.  For the record, horses don't recover from injuries of this type.

As an animal lover myself, one who enjoys and appreciates horses daily, I do have to wonder about some people though.  Remember...it IS still a horse.  Seems to me that lately, some people would rather see the jockey killed than the horse.  Sad state of affairs if you ask me.
