Disastrous last day in Dubai for Louis Oosthuizen – DP World Tour Championship
Louis Oosthuizen’s stroke of bad luck on the last day of the DP World Tour Championship, held in Dubai, ruined his chances of getting better results.
His score after the end of the third day of the Arabian Championship was neck to neck with the top contenders of the title.
At 14-under par, he was in a comfortable position to give Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Luke Donald and his countryman Louis Oosthuizen a run for their money.
The final day changed the course of the tournament for the South African. His day started as he had hoped. Bagging two birdies on the first and the second hole on Sunday, he managed to get a good start.
His score after the second hole on the deciding day was disappointing, as he did not manage to register a single break till the 13th hole. He parred the next 11 holes.
With 5 holes remaining, something extraordinary was required from the African to overcome the dry spell that he was having. He managed to score a birdie on the 14th hole, following it up with another par.
A birdie and a bogey on the 16th and the 17th hole, respectively, he finally finished the race to the title with a par on the last hole.
While the South African was going through a tough last round, McIlroy and Rose produced some splendid golf. The game that they exhibited justified their top ranking.
McIlroy went on to win the DP World Tour Championship, not before he was given a stiff time by the Englishman, Rose.
Although, the 2nd ranked player in the world, Luke Donald, carded one of the best rounds of golf in a long time, it was not enough to defeat McIlroy.
Oosthuizen and his Countryman Schwartzel had their share of bad luck in the last round. It seemed as if it was just not their day. The duo failed to come up to the standard set by Rose and McIlroy.
Oosthuizen lost his chances for the title, owing to his poor performance in the final round.
