I'm trying to burn a CD, pretty basic.

But my disc drive isnt on. There is no light, heat, or sound going on.

It wont open when I push the button or use the eject command in My Computer. The only way I've been able to open it is with the emergency eject button on the front. Please help!

Sidenotes: I have an HP Windows XP laptop.

I also had a tendency to hit my disc drive button alot and it would pop out. I haven't accidently opened it in a while. Did I break it?

  1. it's broke is the short answer.

If you can only open it with the hair pin then you need to replace it

  2. You broke it.

  3. Hi there, it is unlikely that you have broken just the open button on the drive or it would still open through My Computer and still show some signs of power when you start up your laptop.

I am not sure on the HP's but i know on Dells and some others, you can take the CD drive and slide it out (usually a little slider to release it under the laptop) and then push back in, it can sometimes be as simple as that, over time it has worked it's way a little bit loose and not making a good connection so not getting powered up.

    Hope this helps.
