Disc Read Error. My console keeps coming with a disc read error. The problem is not a dirty lens

My console keeps coming with a disc read error. The problem is not a dirty lens or a damaged disc, it is obviously that the laser either needs realignment or the voltage is low(although I think they only had that problem on the larger models). However, I can't find any information anywhere about how to fix this. What do I need to do?my PS2 will only play audio cds... it will not play a DVD or PS1/PS2 games... what can i do to fix the problem myself?
