The PCB selection committee on Monday announced a 15-man squad for the Test series ignoring wicketkeepers Kamran Akmal and Adnan Akmal and ace leg-spinner Danish Kaneria.
The selection committee did not give any reason for snubbing the three players. However, it was reported that Kaneria failed to get his name cleared by the PCB while the first-choice wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal was dropped for his poor show with the
gloves in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011.
Kaneria is the subject of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 during the 2009 season. Although he was later cleared by the probe committee but according to a PCB official, the
Board is not ready to clear the spinner for selection unless he provides the statement he had given to Essex police during investigation.
Kaneria, however, said that he has submitted whatever details he had and has expressed anger over being ignored for the Test series in the Caribbean.
“I can't understand why they have dropped me after I was cleared by the Essex police and that letter of clearance has been submitted to the PCB,” said Kaneria while talking to the media reporters.
“I have submitted whatever details I had... but now no board official picks up my phone and no answer is given to me,” he added further.
The 30-year-old spinner, who has picked up 261 wickets from 61 Test matches- the most by any Pakistan spinner, said that he has served his country for more than 10 years and does not deserve such treatment.
Former Pakistan cricketers have also criticised the selection of national team for the Test series in the Caribbean.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a former chief selector has said that by not selecting Kaneria, PCB has shown double standards. He said that Kaneria is a world-class spinner and deserved a place in the Test side.
Another former chief selector Iqbal Qasim has termed Pakistan’s selections as inconsistent. He reckoned the rookie wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal should have been picked by the selection committee.
“After his brilliant wicket-keeping in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, where he took eight catches in a Test last year, Adnan deserved a place in the Test team. It is total injustice against a youngster,” Qasim said.
