Disciplinary at work for lateness. I have worked in my job for nearly 2 years. For several months my timekeepin

has been very poor especially when I have to start in the morn (i work shifts). I was issued with a verbal warning however I was an hour and half late for a shift the following week and was issued a written warning.

For over a week I managed to get in work on time apart from thurs I was 25 mins late and on sat 10mins late.

My manager doensn't know if Im going to get further disciplinary as she has to discuss it with HR. I'm really worried as I don't want to lose my job. Any suggestions welcome x do u think ill get fired?

  1. I used to get into **** for being late all the time.  Not much you can do apart from lie and make something up:

Some sort of commitment at home (child etc) which makes you run late

    Something medical (unlikely)

The 'kids/school run' thing's the best (if you don't have kids, make some up or pop one out quickly).  They have to take childcare factors into account these days.  If you just say 'oh I'm late because I can't seem to get organised' you're basically screwed.

    Good luck

  2. If you have a signed contract that  reads you are contracted for IE  36 hrs a week if turn up late or have a day off this means that you have not full field your contracted hours, and disciplinary action can be taken.look at it another way if you ran a business would you like to have people coming in late, why not sit down and talk to your manager and tell him that the early mornings are a problem and could my shift be changed. or start at a later time.

  3. Unfortunately, yes, it sounds like you might get fired.  You should  ask if there is a way you can make it up to them.

  4. If you are constantly late, ask yourself whether you really enjoy your job.  I have always found that if my job is really naff, then it gets more and more difficult to get up in the morning or when ever.  If you find you are fed up with work, then make sure you are on time and look for something else.  You don't want to get the sack first!!

  5. it looks like your employer has a attendance procedure in place which would include lateness and sickness or other non attendance. i would think that you would get a stage 2 written warning and if late again within a specified time then a 3rd and final warning.

to be perfectly honest with you, you really need to sort out getting up in the morning. having said that if you have genuine reasons why you cant get in for the early start time like maybe transport etc talk to your line manager and see if something can be sorted out.

but you must realise that it is only fair on all your work colleagues that everyone attends on time.

hope you manage to sort out, if you are in doubt try asking your union or employer what the attendance procedure is.

best of luck and i hope you manage to sort out.

  6. get a grip stop slouching and start turning up on time never mind discaplinary action i wouldnt want you working for me

  7. You will go to written warning, then final written.

    After that u are out

  8. It is very possible for you to get fired. You've been verbally warned, and warned in writting. I'm sure the warning said "up to and including termination" on it. Usually does.

You show no respect for your employer when you can't get there on time when all other people can get their shite together and get there. No excuse.

Get up earlier, leave earlier. Bring your breakfast to work. Lay your clothes out the night before. Make sure your car is filled with gas etc. Get the coffee maker loaded and ready to go at night. Do as much as you can in the evening to cut your routine.

  9. why don't you try getting up a bit earlier?!
