None of these virtues are seen in most of the present day politicians . They get elected by money and muzzle power as if they have to run a lucrative business. We are witness to the scenes in the parliament. Decipline , elmination of corruption etc.,is possible only out of fear which is lacking these days. How can the fear element be introduced for the thick skinned.

  1. Well, parents/teachers can try to teach many things, but ultimately it’s up to each individual person what he or she actually learns and follows.

For examples, some parents/teachers say one thing and do something else. The children catch on, don’t do as they say, but do as they do. Some parents/teachers are genuine role models, but they may suffer in life because of their honesty and integrity. So the children may decide as they grow up that the elders have been foolish in living by values, and hence they do the exact opposite.

Fear does motivate good behaviour, but only up to a point. At the first opportunity, behaviour is likely to change to no longer obeying the rules. So the motivation for good behaviour needs to come from within to be lasting.

The politicians get elected because the general public - who cast the votes - are afraid of their money and muscle power. But if we, the people, are able to overcome our fear, and exercise our voting power to put genuinely qualified leaders into parliament, we could start a new trend of social change, eliminating corruption and installing discipline where it matters most.

indeed, u r right. many of us lack virtues to propel our lives.  instead we r powered by greed, power, consumerism.

by chance, i came across the bahai writings on the future commonwealth of nations - so unlike the present day political system.  electioneering without campaigning.  pple choose / elect the best among them to govern.  very interesting and workable if we give up our EGO!

  3. Do not be so quick to judge others, unless you yourself are without faults. Especially when referring to those people that you only know through who they are portrayed in the Media, and not personally as individuals.
